Edgemon recognized as SAC Player of Week

Wayland Baptist's Kaylee Edgemon has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Edgemon helped the sixth-ranked Flying Queens to three victories last week over Oklahoma-Panhandle State (87-64), Southwestern Christian (99-49) and 10th-ranked Oklahoma City University (76-61).

Two games after scoring a career-high 23 points in a game against Bacone, Edgemon topped that with a 27-point effort against Southwestern Christian, then the next game went for 22 points with nine rebounds as the Flying Queens completed the regular-season sweep of OCU to take the inside track to the No. 1 seed in the SAC Tournament.

For the week, Edgemon averaged 19.7 points and 6.7 rebounds. She shot 59 percent (24-of-41) from the field, 42 percent (5-of-12) from 3-point range, and 86 percent (6-of-7) from the free-throw line.

A 5-11 sophomore from Littlefield and a first-year transfer from Eastern New Mexico University, Edgemon ranks 13th in the NAIA in field goal percentage (49 percent).

Edgemon is the Flying Queens' second SAC Player of the Week this season. Junior Morgan Bennett was recognized the week of Dec. 5.

The Flying Queens (24-4, 18-2) wrap up the regular-season this week and can clinch at least a share of the conference title and the No. 1 seed in the SAC Tournament with wins at Texas Wesleyan (13-15, 11-9) and Southwestern Assemblies of God (19-9, 13-7). In the first round of conference play, Wayland defeated Texas Wesleyan, 80-53, and SAGU, 76-66.
