Pioneers earn win over CCC

Box Score 1 It took some time to get it, but the Wayland Baptist baseball team picked up a win over Central Christian College in its series affected by wintry weather in McPherson, Kan., last weekend.

The Pioneers were leading the Tigers in Friday's series opener, 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. CCC had the bases loaded with no outs when officials determined playing conditions were too dangerous to continue playing. The game was played in rainy conditions with near freezing temperatures and gusty winds.

The teams hoped to resume play Saturday, but weather didn't allow it, so the teams agreed to try to find a date to resume the series, possibly at a neutral site.

On Sunday it was determined that Wayland would get credit for a win in game 1, the 3-0 final a result of the scoring reverting to the last completed inning.

Games 2 and 3 of the series remain up in the air.

The Pioneers improve to 19-11 overall and 8-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference; CCC falls to 2-25, 1-12.

Wayland's next action is a three-game series against Oklahoma-Panhandle State (17-14, 8-6), starting with a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday before a single game at noon Saturday.
