Wayland Baptist Flying Queens
Morgan Bennett and
Kaylee Edgemon have been name Apex Collision Center Student-Athletes of the Week.
Bennett and Edgemon helped the sixth-ranked Flying Queens (10-2) to a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference road wins against Southwestern Assemblies of God University, 74-55, and Texas Wesleyan, 78-64.
Bennett, a 5-foot-8 senior guard from Shallowater, averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the two games, along with three total steals and a block. Against Texas Wesleyan, Bennett came up one assist shy of a triple-double as she finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. She was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
A Second Team NAIA All-American last season, Bennett ranks seventh in the NAIA in assist/turnover ratio (3.1) and 18
th in assists per game (4.5). With 577 career assists, she is 37 away from breaking the Flying Queens' record of 613 set by Chris Kennedy from 1979-83.
Edgemon, a 5-foot-11 junior forward from Littlefield, averaged a team-best 16 points in the two wins, along with seven total rebounds, three assists, one block and one assist. She had 19 points against SAGU, which was three off her season-high of 22 that came in the team's season-opener. For the week she shot 46 percent from the field (13-of-28) and was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Edgemon, an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American last season, is averaging 13.2 points per game, second on the team to Bennett's 13.8.
