Solomon named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Wayland Baptist baseball player Tanner Solomon has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
 
To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above and have been enrolled at their current institution for at least a calendar year, have at least a cumulative 3.30 GPA, and be a starter or significant reserve who has participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
 
Solomon, a junior pitcher from Phoenix, led the NAIA in wins this season with six. He ended the shortened season with a 6-1 record and 2.09 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings. He was the No. 2 starter for the Pioneers, who were enjoying one of their best seasons in program history with a 27-6 record and the equivalent of a No. 26 NAIA ranking. The season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March.
 
Due to the abbreviated season, career statistics were used for voting purposes. For his career, Solomon owns a 17-6 record, having made 36 appearances with 25 starts. He has thrown five complete games, including one shutout, and owns a 4.15 ERA with 144 strikeouts and 59 walks in 158 1/3 innings.
 
A business major, Solomon was named the team's Most Valuable Pitcher last season. As a freshman, he was All-Sooner Athletic Conference Gold Glove Pitcher.
 
Solomon was selected in NAIA District 4, which includes schools in 15 states and Canada. He was one of three SAC players honored, along with Oklahoma City University outfielders Tyler Williams and Peyton Crispin.

Solomon now is eligible for Academic All-American, to be announced from June 8-11.  
 
Five WBU baseball players were nominated for the honor. Besides Solomon, others were Austin Moya, Tristan Galbreath, Jacob Adams and Chase Jones.
