Pioneers No. 6 seed in SAC Tournament

Wayland Baptist is seeded sixth and will play in the OCU bracket in the Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament.

The double-elimination SAC tourney will feature eight teams, divided into two brackets. Four teams will play at Oklahoma City University and four at Science & Arts in Chickasha, Okla.

As the No. 6 seed in the eight-team conference tournament, Wayland (24-23, 8-13 SAC) – which was idle this weekend – will open play against third-seeded Texas Wesleyan (27-14, 15-6). That game will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 7 at Jim Wade Stadium on the OCU campus.

The WBU-TXWES winner will play the winner of a game between No. 2 seed OCU (29-15, 19-5) and No. 7 seed Southwestern Assemblies of God (28-25, 8-16), who play at 11 a.m. Friday, at 2 p.m. Saturday. The losers of Friday's first two games play at 6 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.

The OCU bracket championship will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 9 with an "if necessary" game immediately following.

The winner of the OCU bracket will play the winner of the Science & Arts bracket at Bill Smith Ballpark in a winner-take-all championship at 2 p.m. Monday, May 10.

Science & Arts (30-10), ranked No. 11 in the NAIA, is the top seed after topping 21^st-ranked OCU, 7-1, on Saturday to win the SAC regular-season title. The Drovers have won the last two SAC Tournament crowns.

Wayland is looking for its first conference tournament victory since 2017. The Pioneers were winless in both 2018 and '19, and last year's tourney was cancelled due to COVID-19. The Pioneers advanced to the championship in 2016, falling to USAO, 4-2.
