Kaitlyn Edgemon has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Edgemon, a 5-foot-11 pandemic-sophomore forward from Littlefield, was recognized after helping the No. 11 Flying Queens to a split of their two games against NCAA Division II competition at the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo. Wayland defeated the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, 73-65, before falling to CSU-Pueblo, 77-56.
Against UCCS, Edgemon matched her season-high with 26 points, hitting 9-of-16 from the field – including one 3-pointer – and 7-of-9 free throws. Against CSU-Pueblo, Edgemon scored 10 points. In the two games combined, she logged eight rebounds, three assists and a steal.
This is the first SAC Player of the Week for Edgemon, who becomes the second Flying Queen honored with the weekly honor this season.
Jenna Cooper-Jackson was recognized for the week of Oct. 24-30. That was her third such honor after two recognitions last season.
Edgemon, the SAC Freshman of the Year in 2020-21 and All-SAC Third Team last season, has scored 816 career points.
The Flying Queens (5-3) return to SAC play this week, hosting Southwestern Christian at 6 p.m. Thursday and No. 23 Mid-America Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday.
