Tanner Solomon has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Solomon, a fifth-year player from Phoenix, threw a six-hit shutout to lead the Pioneers to a 1-0 victory in the opener of a four-game series against Adams State (Colo.), setting the tone for a four-game sweep.
The right-handed Solomon (2-0) recorded six strikeouts and didn't walk a batter as he threw 85 pitches in the quick-paced, 90-minute, seven-inning contest that featured temperatures just above freezing. It was the 10
th complete game and second shutout of Solomon's career, which includes 42 starts in 53 appearances. His other shutout came in his sophomore season, a 3-0 victory at Central Christian (Kan.) that was halted after five innings due to weather.
Solomon improved to 2-0 this season.
The Pioneers next play at University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M., at 2 p.m. Central Tuesday.
