Box Score 2 ARLINGTON – Wayland Baptist and Arlington Baptist split a doubleheader here Friday, with the Patriots winning the opener, 6-3, and the Pioneers prevailing in the nightcap, 7-1. The doubleheader came in the middle of a pair of single games, which Arlington Baptist won Thursday, 10-4, and which Wayland hopes to win beginning at noon Saturday in the four-game series finale.
In Friday's second game, Wayland (15-10) got key contributions from its first three batters.
Jack Kolich,
Danny Arambula and
Jake Green all went 2-for-4 to account for six of WBU's seven hits and four of the seven runs. Green and Kolich also had two RBIs apiece.
Justin Porter had Wayland's other hit and scored twice.
Both teams scored a run in the third before the Pioneers plated the winning run in the fourth. They added two more in the sixth and three in the seventh.
WBU starter
Ty Jackson (3-1) earned the win, allowing just one unearned run on three hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Jose Suero finished out the game, striking out one.
In Friday's first game, the Patriots – in the first season under longtime WBU head coach Brad Bass – jumped out to an early lead with a three-run homer in the first, then recorded their other three runs in the second. Wayland was blanked until the seventh when the Pioneers cut their deficit in half, but couldn't catch all the way up.
Like in game 2, Kolich and Green went 2-for-4, with Kolich driving in two. Porter and
Brock Webber had singles and scored one run each, as did
Mark Anzaldua.
Tanner Solomon (2-2) suffered the loss after surrendering six runs on eight hits in 1 1/3.
Gloymer Cuevas threw the final 4 2/3, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out six. Freshman Clay Hagen went the distance for Arlington Baptist, allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out six with three walks.
