Tanner Solomon and
Dawin Santos have been named Wayland Baptist University Student-Athletes of the Week. Solomon and Santos were honored after the Pioneers swept Central Christian (Kan.) in a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series at Wilder Field.
In the series opener, Solomon struck out a career-high 14 batters while walking only one and scattering seven hits in a seven-inning, complete-game, 10-2 victory. The 14 Ks doubled his previous season-high and marked the seventh time in his career to log double-digit strikeouts. The fifth-year right-hander from Phoenix, now 3-3 on the season, has 49 strikeouts on the season (13
th in the NAIA) and 291 career strikeouts.
Santos, a senior first baseman from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, led the Pioneers at the plate over the weekend, hitting .625 (5-for-8) with three RBIs, three walks and two runs. All five of Santos' hits were doubles as he ended with a 1.250 slugging percentage.
