Waxahachie, Texas – Wayland Baptist's
Fade Ogunbade and
Selma Sutaj earned Sooner Athletic Conference post-season awards while
Brenna Daniel was added to the conference Honorable Mention list as announced by the conference Friday evening at the SAC Women's Volleyball Tournament.
Ogunbade was named the conference Attacker of the Year while Sutaj garnered the league's Newcomer of the Year honor. Both Pioneers were also named to the SAC All-Conference First Team.
Ogunbade finished in the top 10 in a pair of categories as she was ninth in the league with a hitting percentage of .243 and was fifth in kills with 233 for an average of 3.07 kills per set. Ogunbade was also second in the league in blocks with 80 and an average of 1.05 blocks per set.
Sutaj was also a key player for the Pioneers as she was sixth in the conference in kills with 214 for an average of 3.01 kills per game and was sixth in points with 247.5 for an average of 3.49 per set.
Daniel led the Pioneers in digs with 398 for an average of 4.01 digs per set while adding 48 assists during the year to help her earn Honorable Mention honors.
"All three of our gals are fantastic individuals," stated head coach
Jim Giacomazzi. "We are very excited with the selection from the coaches. Fade is very athletic and the improvement she has made is evident by how other teams block her. Selma has a high volleyball IQ. She sees open spots during the rallies and her defense helped our team develop into one of the top back-row defenses in the conference. Brenna has been with us for years. She has developed into a very good defensive player. Her leadership will be missed."
