The Wayland Women's basketball team fell behind in the first quarter and failed to battle back in a 69-56 loss to Vanvguard University Friday afternoon in Santa Clarita, Calif.
The Lions raced out to an early lead in the first quarter by taking a score of 15-4 after a shot in the point and the Lions pushed the first-quarter score to 25-12. The Queens battled in the second quarter, but Vanguuard kept the lead at 37-24 at the break.
The Queens were able to cut the Lions lead to six as
Linda Brice hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds left in the quarter to put the deficit at 47-41.
In the final period, the Queens again cut the lead to 52-47 on Brice's jumper, but the Lions would push the lead out to 62-53 midway through the final period and held on for the win.
Brice paced the Queens with 14 points while
Maria Ghaleb added 11 points with
Bobbie Fouquet grabbed boards in the loss.
The Queens will head back to the court Saturday afternoon against The Master's at 5 p.m..
