On the strength of a record-matching performance, Wayland Baptist pitcher
Tyler Wade has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Wade was honored after recording 17 strikeouts and allowing just four singles, no earned runs and no walks in 6 2/3 innings when the Pioneers closed out the Cajun Collision on Saturday in Sterlington, La., against Tabor (Kan.). Wade, who threw 114 pitches, was the hard-luck loser when Wayland allowed an unearned run with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning and fell to the Bluejays, 1-0.
Wade is a sophomore right-hander from Midland in his first season at Wayland after transferring from Odessa College. He signed with the University of Tennessee out of high school.
Wade's 17 Ks tied a program record held since 2011 by Marcus Limon in a 6-1 loss to Oklahoma Baptist.
Wade is the third Pioneer honored by the SAC in as many weeks.
Ty Jackson also was named Pitcher of the Week Jan. 30 and
Arturo Disla was SAC Player of the Week Feb. 6.
