Wayland Baptist slugger
Arturo Disla has been named NAIA Ball Hitter of the Week.
A 6-foot-1, 240-pound sophomore from La Vega, Dominican Republic, Disla was almost unstoppable as the Pioneers swept a four-game, home-opening series against NCAA Division II New Mexico Highlands. Wayland's No. 3-hole hitter homered in three of the four games with at least three RBI in all four. He wound up hitting .692 (9-for-13) with 14 RBIs, three home runs and four doubles for a 1.692 slugging percentage. He walked three times, did not strike out and scored six runs.
In the series finale, a 14-3 victory, Disla was a perfect 4-for-4, including a two-run homer and two doubles.
He ranks second in the NAIA with 16 RBIs while his three homers rank sixth.
The honor from NAIA Ball comes on the heels of Disla being selected Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
