Garrett McClain and
Justin Porter have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District NAIA Baseball Team®, selected by College Sports Communicators.
The CSC Academic All-District Team® recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the
diamond and in the classroom.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. Pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. No student-athlete is eligible until he has completed one full calendar year at his current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years. In the cases of transfers, graduate students, and two-year college graduates, student-athletes must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution.
McClain is a junior pitcher from George West, Texas, who transferred from Friends University (Kan.). A Sooner Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete, McClain, who is majoring in biology, pitched 23 innings, logging 25 strikeouts with 14 walks and a 7.83 ERA.
Porter, the Pioneers' center fielder, is a media communications major from Montgomery, Ala., who played in 50 games this season. Porter, who figures to repeat as NAIA Scholar-Athlete this season, hit .262 (34-of-130) with nine doubles, two triples and seven home runs, along with 26 RBI in 2023. He stole 27-of-30 bases, seven short of the program record. Porter recorded 49 steals in his three-year career.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 7.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
