Flying Queens Lose Tough Game at Drovers

Chickasha, Oklahoma – Bobbie Fouquet scored 15 points, Taylor Houston added 9 points, and Linda Brice scored 8 points, but the Flying Queens suffer a tough Sooner Athletic Conference road loss to the RV University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (9-3, 5-1 SAC).

Wayland Baptist (9-3, 4-2 SAC) found themselves in an early hole after the Drovers began the game on a 17-2 run in large part to hitting 6 early shots and 5 of them being from 3-point range. With just under 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Queens were able to attack the basket scoring two layups, which cut the lead in half at 26-13. At the end of the period, the Queens trailed 30-15.

To start the second quarter, the Queens were able to force a Drover turnover that resulted in an Emily Sigala 3-pointer. However, the Drovers were able to go on another offensive run scoring the next 10 points and forcing the score to 40-18 USAO over the Queens with just under 8 minutes remaining until halftime. A successful 3-pointer and layup by Fouquet gave the Queens a quick 5 points in the last minute of the half, but the Drovers took a 52-29 lead into the break.

The Queens were unable to slow down the Drovers in the second half as USAO hit 3 quick 3-pointers to extend the lead to 62-34 just out of the halftime break. The Queens went on to suffer a tough 96-60 defeat to a very good USAO team.

Freshman Bobbie Fouquet led the way for the Flying Queens with 15 points and 6 rebounds, Taylor Houston scored points and grabbed 3 rebounds, Linda Brice scored 8 points and 3 rebounds, and Emily Sigala added 7 points and 2 assists.

Next up for the Flying Queens is a trip to Fort Worth where they will take on the Rams of Texas Wesleyan (7-5, 3-3 SAC) in a Sooner Athletic Conference game. Tip is scheduled for Saturday, January 6th at 2:00 PM.
