Plainview, Texas – The Flying Queens had three players compile a total of 5 awards when the Sooner Athletic Conference released the names of All-Conference recipients.
Sophomore
Megan Nestor received SAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-Sooner Athletic First Team after having a dominant regular season averaging 16 points per game, 13.1 rebounds per game, on 57% shooting from the floor. Nestor also averaged 1.9 steals per game and 1 block per game to anchor the Flying Queen defense. Nestor won SAC Player of the Week three times this season, won NCCAA Player of the Week once, and is 5 rebounds away from breaking Shayla Harrison's single-season rebound record of 271. Nestor had a statement performance against RV Langston on January 20
th when she went for 32 points, 24 rebounds including 10 offensive boards, and finished shooting 11-16 from the floor.
Bobbie Fouquet secured SAC Freshman of the Year and All-Sooner Athletic Honorable Mention after having an impressive freshman season averaging 10.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, on 36% shooting from the floor. Fouquet started every game this season as a freshman, and she took home SAC Player of the Week once this year. Fouquet had a dominant performance against the University of North Texas at Dallas where she went for a career high 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Junior,
Linda Brice, received All-Athletic Third Team honors after averaging 15.8 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, on 34% shooting. The Coweta native started every game for the Flying Queens and had 8 games of 20+ points. On November 30
th, she dropped 28 points including the game winning bucket at the buzzer, grabbed 4 rebounds, and had 3 steals.
The Wayland Baptist Flying Queens will now head to Fort Worth to compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference Semi-Final Round against the Lions of Langston University. Tip is scheduled for Monday night at 8:00 PM from the tournament host site, Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas.
