Miller Leaving WBU for SPC Track and Field Head Coaching Position

Plainview – Wayland Baptist Athletics has announced that Pioneer Track and Field Head Coach, Wes Miller, will be leaving and accepting the South Plains College Track and Field Head Coach position.

"I'd like to give a sincere thank you to Dr. Donna Hedgepath and Jim Giacomazzi for trusting me with this program," said Miller when reflecting on his time at Wayland Baptist. "Wayland welcomed me as family and will always have a special place in my heart."

"Also thank you to the rest of the athletics staff, coaches, and everyone on campus that make this program run! I'm confident the track and cross-country programs are in a great place to have success this season and in the continued future," said Miller.

"We would like to thank Wes for all of his hard work over the past year building the program. He did a tremendous job with recruiting and developing his players. We wish him and his family all the success at South Plains College," said Wayland Baptist Director of Athletics Jim Giacomazzi.

Miller was the head coach of the WBU Track and Field program for one season, but his team's achieved great success during his tenure. Miller coached former SAC 800m Champion, Keyshawn Garcia, who also took home a 4th place finish in the Men's 800m at the NAIA Championships.

In 2024, Miller led the Pioneer Men's Track and Field team to a 6th place finish at the NCCAA National Championships, including his 4x100m Relay team taking home a first-place finish.

Miller also led the Pioneer Cross-Country teams this season, and two of his athletes, Evans Pololet and Inmaculada Delgado, qualified for the NAIA National Championships.

Miller finished with, "To the current staff and athletes, I'd like to say: finish what you've started, keep Christ at the center, and you'll be in my prayers as this season transpires!"

The Pioneer Men's and Women's Track and Field season begins Friday, January 17th at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas.

Wayland Baptist Athletics is expected to make an announcement regarding the future coach of the WBU Track and Field program imminently.
