OKLAHOMA CITY --- Wayland Baptist Flying Queens freshman
Cania Mitchell has earned this week's SAC Digital Scoreboards Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week honors, per the Sooner Athletic Conference offices.
A freshman from Amarillo, Texas, Mitchell has been of the key impact players this season for the Flying Queens and a vital reason for the team being 6-5 midway through Sooner Athletic Conference play.
In the Flying Queens two wins this past weekend, Mitchell displayed her defensive prowess by compiling five steals, a block, and bringing in 11 defensive rebounds.
In a 60-54 win over Southwestern Christian, Mitchell notched a near triple-double, finishing with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Mitchell followed up that stellar performance with 19 points, four rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block in their 71-49 win over Oklahoma City.
The Queens will begin a three-game week starting Monday, January 19
th, when they host the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM at the Hutcherson Center.
