PLAINVIEW, Texas – Wayland Baptist University student-athletes gave back to the Plainview community this past Monday by volunteering at Central Elementary's Meet the Teacher and Classroom Open House.
Student-athletes from several teams joined members of the university's Advancement Department to help make the event a welcoming experience for students and their families. Volunteers assisted with serving hot dogs and chips, greeting the families, and helping with the evening's activities.
This event provided an opportunity for Wayland Baptist Athletics to connect with local families while demonstrating the university's commitment to community service and the NAIA Champions of Character values.
"We are proud of our student-athletes for taking the time to serve the Plainview community," said Wayland Baptist Director of Athletics, Jim Giacomazzi. "Being a Pioneer is about more than what you do in competition. It is also about representing Wayland Baptist with character and making a positive impact on the people and communities around us. We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with Central Elementary and be a part of such a great event."
Wayland Baptist Athletics remains committed to being an active and positive presence throughout the Plainview community through volunteer service and outreach opportunities.
