Jean Soutien, Kabroderan Handsborough, Sonwabiso Skhosana and Justin Scruggs broke a 29-year-old school record in the 4x100 relay at the West Texas A&M Last Chance Meet. The foursome ran a time of 39.59 seconds, breaking the old mark of 39.61 set in 1988 by Alrick Munroe, Kenny Brokenburr, Craig Taylor and former Olympian Devon Morris. "We're pretty excited about that," Wayland coach Brian Whitlock said. "Those were some pretty good athletes who had the old record. Devon was an Olympian and is in the NAIA Hall of Fame, and Alrick was an (11-time) all-American." Morris won 17 individual or relay national titles and four runners-up among his 22 all-American honors. Whitlock said a recommendation by assistant coach Remuro Henry, who coaches Wayland's sprinters, paved the way for the record. "We were struggling a little bit on the third leg, and Coach Henry wanted to run Sanwabiso," Whitlock said. "That was a really good call by Coach Henry. It made a huge difference." The time is leading the NAIA by almost a half-second.
