The Pioneers wasted a nice day on Homecoming Saturday at Wayland, getting blown out in the final contest of their three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series with Northwestern Oklahoma State, 14-5. The loss drops WBU to 11-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
WBU took a 2-1 lead after one on a lead-off single by Eddie Allen, a walk and a double by Kevin Hennessey. That score carried into the fourth when the Rangers exploded for seven runs on six hits and two Pioneer errors.
The visitors made it 10-2 with two more in the fifth. Wayland finally plated another run in the seventh on Michael Prell's lead-off single and a RBI double by Hennessey.
The Pioneers scored two more in the eighth to make it 13-5. Bobby Curtis and Oscar Rivera, who went 3-for-4 in the game, opened the inning with back-to-back singles and scored on Jose Santiago's double to the corner in right field, but a baserunning blunder put an early end to the inning, and WBU went quietly in the ninth.
Calvin Lewis got the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season. WBU was outhit 17-10 in the contest and made five errors.
