EDMOND, Okla.---The Wayland Baptist Pioneers exploded for six runs in the second inning and went on to defeat Oklahoma Christian University 14-4 at Dobson Field on Thursday evening. The win improves the Pioneers' record to 16-9 overall and 6-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Trevor Stringer picked up his second win of the season, and his first complete game. The junior from Lubbock went seven innings, giving up three earned runs on eight hits.
Michael Prell and Scott Keane each had three RBI. Prell hit a three-run homer to highlight the second inning. Pedro Gomez and Kevin Hennessey had three hits a piece, including a home run each. Gomez's long ball was a solo shot to lead off the sixth, while Hennessey knocked in the final two runs with a no-doubt-about-it bomb in the top half of the seventh.
Josh Lucas was on base four times, going 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and a RBI.
Keane, a junior from San Angelo, made the defensive play of the game, robbing OC's Jeff Davis of at least a three-run double with a diving catch in the left-centerfield gap in the third.
The two teams complete the three-game series with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m.
