Pioneers Play Exhibition Game at Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas --- Senior George Williams scored 22 points for the Pioneers in an 84-78 exhibition game loss to Angelo State University on Tuesday evening at Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

The two teams were dead even at the half with 46 points each.   It was one of 11 times in the game that the score was tied.   Neither team pulled away by more than two possessions until ASU went on a 7-0 run that made it 74-67 with 3:44 remaining in the final period.

Williams eventually cut it to two on a shot in the paint with 39 seconds left that made it 80-78, but the Rams hit two free throws on their next possession, and then got a dunk with ten seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Other Pioneers to hit the double figure mark in scoring were junior guard TJ Jacobs with 17, Isaiah Jackson with 14, and Jamie Eisinger put in 10.

WBU hit 50 percent from the field and outrebounded ASU 45-28, led by Bobby Watkins and Rodrigo Silva who pulled down eight boards each, but points off turnovers proved the difference in the game.  The Rams converted 18 Pioneer turnovers into 21 points, while WBU got just nine points off eight ASU miscues.

The Pioneers make their home debut on Thursday went they take on Sul Ross State University at 6 p.m. in Hutcherson Center.  They follow that up with an 8:00 match-up on Friday evening at the Hutch with Dallas Christian College.
