Allen Breaks Career Doubles Mark

Box Score

Senior shortstop Eddie Allen broke the Wayland all-time record for doubles in an 11-6 Pioneer loss against Oklahoma Christian at Wilder Field. Allen tied the mark with the 50th of his career in Saturday's third inning on a two-run shot to right centerfield and then hit his 51st six innings later with a looping line drive to left center.

The four-year letterman also established a new record in career at bats in the game.

The record had belonged to Allen's former teammate and current assistant coach Brett Cook, who played for the Pioneers from 2007-2009.

Other than Allen's two doubles, the Wayland fans had very little to cheer about in the game. The Eagles put up runs in every inning but two and belted out 17 hits, including four doubles and three home runs.

Miguel Pagan and Oscar Rivera had three hits each for the Pioneers, who did not produce a long ball in any of their 13 hits. Rivera had the only other extra base knock with a lead-off double in the third.

OC scored two runs in the first and one in the third to grab a 3-0 lead. Wayland came back with three in the bottom of the inning on Allen's first double and a RBI base hit from Kevin Hennessey.

Hennessey picked up another RBI in the ninth on a sacrifice fly that plated Allen.

Ryan Stuck made his second appearance and first start of the year on the mound for the Pioneers after undergoing elbow surgery last year. The sophomore allowed three runs on six hits, walked one and struck out three. Derrick Sampel got the loss for Wayland, which dropped to 11-16 on the year and 1-8 in conference play.

The Pioneers will take a few days off for Spring Break before traveling to Claremore, Okla. where they will take on Rogers State in a SAC series on Thursday and Friday.

NOTE: At last report, freshman pitcher Mikey Nabarrette is doing well after undergoing surgery late Friday night in a Lubbock hospital. Nabarrette took a line-drive off his right temple in the second inning of the nightcap of a doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian.
