Pioneers Struck Down by Storm

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BETHANY, Okla. --- The Pioneer baseball team remains winless in Sooner Athletic Conference action after falling in a doubleheader at Southern Nazarene on Friday afternoon, 6-1 and 5-3.

WBU had more errors - 5 - than hits - 3 - in the opener. Junior second baseman Calvin Bass had two of the hits, both singles to left. Left fielder Nic Shadle had the only other hit, a single up the middle with two down in the second inning.

The Pioneers left the bases loaded twice in game one, the first time with two outs in the fourth and the second with one out in the top of the seventh. Ben Christian had Wayland's only RBI of the game, a bases loaded walk in the fourth.

Marcus Limon had his first rough outing of the year, allowing six runs, four earned, on eight hits. The senior walked six and struck out four in five-and-a-third innings.

Junior pitcher Kevin Burbank went the distance in the nightcap. The big southpaw allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out five, but WBU could manage just three runs on their eight hits. Kevin Hennessey had the only extra base hit of the day, a double in the sixth inning.

Brian Embery and Christian had two hits each in the game, and Aldo Mendez recorded the only RBI on an infield single that scored Embery in the two-run sixth.

The losses put the Pioneers at 10-12 overall and 0-5 in conference action. They will try to pick up that first SAC win tomorrow with a single game against the Storm beginning at 1 p.m.
