Wrestlers win 7th straight dual in Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Andrew Porras, Kane Lovvorn and Markese Christian earned three wins apiece for Wayland Baptist as the 20^th-ranked Pioneers won one of four duals against top-notch competition Monday at the Desert Duals.
 
Wayland prevailed in its first dual of the day over No. 18 Embry-Riddle, Ariz., 35-15, which marked its seventh straight triumph of the season. The Pioneers then dropped their last three duals to fifth-ranked Oklahoma City, 31-12, top-ranked Grandview, Iowa, 52-0, and Warner Pacific, Ore., 36-18. Warner Pacific is ranked the equivalent of No. 25 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 20 Poll.
 
The results leave Wayland with an 11-6 record.
 
Porras, competing in the 133-pound class, won his first two duals by fall and his last by forfeit.
 
The Pioneers next compete Jan. 3 in Las Vegas, N.M., against New Mexico Highlands. WBU's next home match comes Jan. 27, also against Highlands.
