MUSKOGEE, Okla. — After suffering a tough loss to No. 3 Oklahoma City earlier in the week, the 14th-ranked Wayland Baptist men's wrestling team took out its frustration on Bacone College (Okla.) and Richland Community College of Dallas in blowout fashion here Saturday.
"It was a good day for us overall," Pioneers coach
Aaron Meister said.
The Pioneers defeated the Warriors, 33-15, before taking taking down the first-year Thunderducks, 51-6.
Complete results were not immediately available.
"These guys are still coming together and continuing to buy in," Meister said of his team. "They're working hard, believing in what we're doing, and having fun."
Wayland won seven of 10 matches against Bacone and nine of 10 against Richland. Not only did the Pioneers conquer their opponent, they earned the all-important bonus points that Wayland lacked against OCU.
"We were very dominant and capitalized on scoring bonus points," Meister said. "We took the matches that were close and continued to attack and separate ourselves from the competition.
"We've been voicing that in practices and this was a good step toward that."
Jose 'Chino' Alvarez rolled in both of his matches and remains undefeated during his senior campaign.
The Pioneers next will travel to Arlington for the American Wrestler Southwest Open on Nov. 19.
