Flyer Wayland's annual Strike Out Cancer baseball event to benefit the American Cancer Society will take place Saturday when the Pioneers host Central Christian College (Kan.) at Wilder Field.
In cooperation with RuRu's Closet, owned by Ruth and Gabriel Gonzales, and Covenant Hospital Plainview, the Pioneers will auction the special purple jerseys players and coaches will wear during the game. Bid sheets will be located at the stadium for the silent auction. Minimum bid is $20. Autographed baseballs also will be auctioned.
Sausage wraps and pickle ice will be sold with all proceeds from the silent auction and concessions going to the American Cancer Society.

th in the NAIA, and future Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Central Christian will play a single game Satutrday starting at noon. The teams also will play a doubleheader Friday starting at 3 p.m. at Wilder Field.

Logan Evans, a former WBU pitcher, is coordinating Saturday's Strike Out Cancer event.
Evans is a loyal supporter of cancer awareness events in the community, including at Wayland. She has been a member of Covenant's Relay For Life team for the last seven or so years, including the last three as team captain.
"A lot of people in my life have been affected by cancer," Evans said of why she is passionate about cancer awareness. "Plus it's part of my job. I see it every day."
The Pioneer baseball team has hosted the Strike Out Cancer event, at which they wear the special purple jerseys, for numerous years.

Brad Bass said. "We certainly appreciate Stephanie and everything she does to make events like this happen."
