HASTINGS, Neb. – Wayland Baptist's men's wrestlers won their first match but lost their next two at the Hastings College Bronco Duals here Saturday.
The Pioneers, ranked the equivalent of 48
th in the NAIA, opened the competition with a 27-20 victory over Waldorf, Iowa, ranked the equivalent of 49
th. WBU benefited from four forfeits as DeMarco Speller was the lone Pioneer to record an on-mat win, prevailing by 5-0 decision at 149 pounds.
WBU then fell to Hastings, Neb., ranked the equivalent of 27th, 30-22.
Tommy Rosen-St. John, competing at 174 pounds, recorded an 11-2 major decision in his match.
The Pioneers faced their toughest test last as Wayland faced 13
th-ranked Southern Oregon and fell, 49-3.
Riley Williams was the lone point scorer for Wayland as he won his 197-pound match by 6-4 decision.
The outcomes leave Wayland with a 4-4 season duals record.
The Pioneers' next competition is an invitational hosted by No. 2 Missouri Valley in Marshall, Mo., Jan. 19 and 20.
