Wayland Baptist's
Tiffany Cano has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cano was voted to the Second Team.
The honor, which follows Cano's selection to the Google Cloud Academic All-District team, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
A senior psychology major from Artesia, N.M. who also was named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, Cano was a sprinter in high school who transitioned to distance running. She became a 14-time NAIA All-American and two-time national champion who has helped Wayland win four team titles in track and field. She also was a member of the team that finished ninth at NAIA nationals in cross country, where she received all-conference honors.
Cano was voted winner of WBU Athletics' Bill Hardage Champions of Character Award.
"She is my most Christ-like athlete who has been on many mission trips. She is a wonderful, high-character athlete who happens to be really talented," Wayland coach
Brian Whitlock said.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes outstanding student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The program is financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 NAIA Google Cloud Academic All-America® teams.
