Megan Nestor scored 24 points,
Bobbie Fouquet scored 18 points, and
Taylor Houston scored 13 to lead the RV Flying Queens to victory over UNT-Dallas Saturday afternoon at the Hutcherson Center.
The Queens got off to a hot start to open the game going on a 19-2 with just under six minutes remaining in the quarter.
Linda Brice scored 8 of the first 19 points for the Queens. With just over two minutes until the end of the frame,
Ellie Bruffey hit her second 3-pointer of the quarter to give the Queens a commanding 30-9 lead. The score at the end of the first was 34-13 with the Queens in complete control.
The Queens opened the second quarter the same way they began the game, going on a 13-0 run to lead 47-13 at the just under six-minute mark. Reining Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week
Bobbie Fouquet hit back-to-back 3-pointers with just under four minutes left until the halftime break. The Queens took a 60-25 lead into the break after forcing the Trailblazers into 16 first half turnovers.
After a successful jumper by Bruffey and a 3-pointer from
Peyton North, the Queens had an 81-38 lead to end the third quarter. With just under eight minutes left in the final quarter, successful free throws by Fouquet and
Emily Sigala gave the Queens an 89-42 lead. The 47-point lead was the largest lead of the game for the Flying Queens.
The Flying Queens went on to defeat the Trailblazers of UNT-Dallas 97-56 to improve 12-3 on the season and 6-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Megan Nestor finished with another double-double, scoring 24 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Bobbie Fouquet scored 18 points, 2 rebounds, and shot 3-6 from 3-point range.
Taylor Houston had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and shot 6-8 from the floor.
Linda Brice finished with 12 points and 6 assists.
When talking about his teams' effort from the opening tip, Coach
Jason Cooper said, "We came out ready to get after them today. I was proud of our great first quarter today. We talk a lot about building a lead and more importantly keeping that lead. Today we did both."
RV Wayland Baptist (12-3, 6-2 SAC) will play host to the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandles State University (1-11, 1-8 SAC) on Tuesday night. Tip is set for 6:00 PM at the Hutcherson Center.
