Wayland Baptist University Athletics has named
Nicholas Douglas as the next head coach of the Pioneer Track and Field program.

"I'm glad I accepted the position here at Wayland Baptist. I am really excited to start working with these athletes and start recruiting for the future," said Douglas.

Douglas continued, "This program has had a great history of national championships, and I want to get the team back to that level."

Douglas comes to Wayland Baptist after two seasons as the assistant track and field coach at North Greenville University. Douglas also has six years of coaching experience at the high school ranks, including three years as the Women's Cross Country head coach at Port Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Douglas received a bachelor's degree in sport management back in 2019, and a master's degree in management back in February, both from Warner University (NAIA).

While at Warner, Douglas set the school's triple jump record every year from 2018-2021, won the 2021 Sun Conference Triple Jump Championship and broke the conference record, and was the 2020 NCCAA Triple Jump National Champion.

The achievements for Douglas go beyond the collegiate ranks – he competed at the 2019 Jamaica Athletics National Championships and the 2021 Jamaica Athletics Olympic Trials.

With an extensive list of achievements as a former NAIA and NCAA Division II track and field star, Douglas has tremendous credibility and experience on the big stage.

Wayland Baptist Director of Athletics Jim Giacomazzi spoke about why Douglas was the right choice for the job, "I am excited to have his leadership, passion and experience come to lead our track and field program. Coach Douglas is a person that I believe will help us back to the national stage."

Douglas and his wife, Diva, have two children – Adrian and Alexandra.
