WBU will Induct Four Members into the WBU Athletics Hall of Honor Class of 2025

Wayland Baptist University Athletics has announced that Jeff Dagg (men's golf), Kydia Echols (women's track), Amy Smith Hancock (volleyball), and Daniel Martinez (football) will represent the Class of 2025 in the WBU Athletics Hall of Honor.
 
Each athlete was voted upon by the WBU Athletics Hall of Honor Committee and received nominations from well-over the majority.
 
 
Jeff Dagg – Men's Golf (2004-2008)
 
A native of South Surrey, B.C., Dagg was a catalyst for the Pioneer men's golf program from 2004-2008. During his tenure as a Pioneer, Dagg was named a 2007 NAIA First Team All-American, 2007 All-Tournament Team, and a 2008 NAIA Second Team All-American award.
 
 Dagg experienced an abundance of success during his four years as a Pioneer, helping his team to 10 tournament championships while winning one individual title. The individual title came at the 2006 Peaks Classic where Dagg obliterated his opposition to win the event by an astounding 13 shots after scoring 69-67-75-211 for 5-under Par.
 
 
Kydia Echols – Women's Track and Field (2007-2010)
 
Kydia Echols, a native of Harleton, Texas, had one of the most storied women's track and field careers in Pioneer history. Echols is a 13-time All-American, including three First Team All-American honors, a 3-time All-Conference recipient in Cross Country, and a 2-time All-American Scholar Athlete. Echols won three NAIA National Championships in her career, 2007 4x400m relay (3:42.95), 2008 4x400m relay (9:15.53), and the 2010 600m (1:32.47).
 
Echols and her 4x800m relay teammates set the Pioneer program record for the 4x800m relay at the 2008 NAIA Outdoor Championships with a final time of 8:50.94. Echols also won the 2010 NAIA Indoor National Championship in the 600m with a time of 1:32.47.
 
 
Amy Smith – Volleyball (2000-2003)
 
A native of Lubbock, Texas, Smith was a force to be reckoned with around the net for the Pioneer volleyball team. Smith saw her stock skyrocket in 2002 when she was named a SAC Front Row Specialist of the Year, First Team All-SAC, First Team All-Region, and Region Front Row Specialist of the Year.
 
Smith continued that upward trajectory into 2003 – earning NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, while making it two straight seasons of receiving SAC Front Row Specialist of the Year, First Team All-SAC, and First Team All-Region. Smith is at the top of multiple statistical records such as 2nd in career kills (1,579), 2nd in career hitting percentage (.296), 2nd in block assists (357), 2nd in total blocks (523), and 2nd in total points (2,048.5).
 
 
Daniel Martinez – Football (2015-2018)
 
Daniel Martinez came to Wayland Baptist by way of San Salvador, El Salvador to kick for the Pioneer football team. Martinez was named a 2017 NAIA First Team All-American after leading the nation in field goals made with 17. This All-American honor Martinez received was the second All-American award in program history. During the 2017 season, Martinez was named All-CSFL First Team honors, CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times, and NAIA National Special Teams Player of the Week once.
 
Throughout his four-year career as the Pioneer kicker, Martinez was 110-of-113 on PATs, and he was invited to participate in the FCS Bowl in Daytona Beach, Florida, which put him on the radar of multiple NFL Teams. He held the Pioneer program record for the longest field goal made in a game at 56-yards as a sophomore. He received 11 total CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week awards and 3 total NAIA National Special Teams Player of the Week awards during his tenure as a Pioneer.
 
 
Class of 2025 Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony
 
The 2025 WBU Athletics Hall of Honor ceremony will be held on the morning of Saturday, October 4th in the McClung Center on the campus of Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.
