Alex, a second-year freshman (due to COVID-19) from Lubbock, captured Sooner Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Year and SAC Most Outstanding Wrestler honors after winning first place last weekend at 133 pounds at the SAC Wrestling Championships in Fort Worth. Ranked 18th in the NAIA in that weight class, Alex won both of his matches, first by major decision (13-4) then in the championship over 12th-ranked Jordan Martinez of Texas Wesleyan by decision (9-3).
Alex qualified for the second straight year for the NAIA National Championships, set for March 4 back on the TXWES campus in Fort Worth. Last season as a true freshman, Alex earned NAIA All-American honors with a fifth-place finishÂ
