Tre Hinds, a freshman from Ashton Hall, Barbados, was part of two Wayland relay teams at the Texas Relays. He ran the third leg of the Pioneers’ 4x400 that turned in the NAIA’s fastest time of the season – 3 minutes, 8.60 seconds – by more than two seconds. Wayland, the only NAIA team competing in the mile relay final that included TCU, Stephen F. Austin, Utah State, Kansas, Texas State and UT-Arlington, finished in seventh place. Hinds also ran the first leg of the 4x800 that that ran the NAIA’s second-fast time of the season, 7:41.82. The Pioneers took 11th in that event, finishing behind teams such as Texas A&M, Arkansas, Clemson, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Hinds was named Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight time and third time this season.
Wayland next competes Saturday at the West Texas A&M Invitational in Canyon.
