HOBBS, NM – The Wayland Baptist Women's Golf team traveled to Hobbs, New Mexico to compete in the Battle in the Desert where they brought home 5
th place.
The Pioneers earned the 5
th place finish after shooting 315-318-320-953. As a team, the Pioneers totaled 15 Birdies and 122 Pars.
Oklahoma City took home the team championship (299-291-307-897), Texas Wesleyan finished as the runner-up (303-295-299-897), and Western Texas College rounded out the Top 3 (309-314-313-936).
Freshman
Isabelle Victoria Soh led the Pioneers by coming in 14
th place with scores of 78-76-77-231. Soh continued her strong stretch of play by finishing Top 10 in lowest average scores per Par 4 (4.33 average shot per Par 4) and Par 5 (5.00 average shots per Par 5). Soh scored three Birdies and 33 Birdies (tied for 3
rd most in the tournament).
Juanita Villafane earned a tie for 17
th place after scoring rounds of 75-80-80-235. Villafane was excellent on Par 5s, finishing with a total score E Par and an average of 5.00 shots per Par 5. Villafane scored six Birdies and 26 Pars across three rounds of play.
Marissa Armendariz finished tied for 25
th after shooting 80-82-81-243. Armendariz scored two Birdies and 27 Pars over her three rounds of golf.
Ellen Lonergan finished just behind Armendariz, earning 27
th place with scores of 82-80-82-244. Lonergan ended the tournament with three Birdies and 25 Pars.
Freshman
Avery Lodes earned a tie for 45
th after shooting 91-88-89-268. Across three rounds of play, Lodes scored a Birdie and 11 Pars.
The Pioneers will return to action on October 12
th when they host the Chicken Express Classic at Plainview CC in Plainview, Texas.
